Travis Toews Becomes First Official Candidate Approved by UCP

Today, Travis Toews became the first candidate to be approved by the United Conservative Party (UCP) in the race to become its next leader and the Premier of Alberta.

“This is the first step in my work to bring the proven, responsible leadership to our party and our province,” said Travis Toews. “I’ve traveled the province over that last month with the intention of bringing what Albertans are telling me to the forefront of decision making. I’m pleased to be able to
continue with this incredibly important work.”

He is the first candidate to be declared an official candidate by the party, after successfully presenting a nomination petition signed by 1,000 UCP members, including 200 from each of the party’s five regions; completing candidate vetting; and submitting the first portion of the candidacy
fee and peace bond.

Toews submitted his papers to the party office in Calgary on June 27.
